Getting to Know VoIP Gateways

Digital and Analogue VoIP Gateway Options

VoIP Gateways
VoIP gateways may be purchased in digital or analogue form. Analogue
gateways connect traditional telephones to a PBX system (or vice versa).
A digital VoIP gateway, however, connects a PBX system to digital voice
lines on the IP network. In terms of features, both analogue or digital
gateways are typically SIP, H.323 and MGCP compliant and offer G.711,
G.723.1, G.726, and G.729A codecs support. On top of this, many
interfaces provide echo cancellation, jitter buffer, VAD and CNG, as
well as various other capabilities like call routing.
